"Zimbabwe Drums"

After I found the love of my life, I woke up one morning to a soft light coming through lace curtains and it streamed through to a statue, a large carved bird.

Deja vu feelings came over me. It brought me back to when I wrote 'Zimbabwe Drums" in the 70's. I had a lovely room with lace curtains that I had someone make, a lovely lace panel ran through the center of them. The morning light would stream thorough,  I remember sitting in my bed and crafting the lyrics to the song. I had been reading James Michener,  the story set in Zimbabwe, the lost kingdom, it so inspired me...

"Indignities possess a voice, that longs to be heard , needs to be heard... Man's history, each one's account, of the world and oneself is the infinite thread we all weave..."

Oh and that deja vu...The curtains in my love's house were the same, the light and the carved statue... the  Zimbabwean Bird, a national emblem of Zimbabwe. The bird carvings stood on walls and monoliths of the ancient city of Great Zimbabwe....I must be in the right time and place....hmmm with the right guy...finally!

ZIMBABWE DRUMS

Music & Lyrics: Terri New
Great you once stood, filled with the majesty
Of resonant truth, born of the drums
Child-like you were,
Filled with the innocence of trusting souls
Believing the others, were like you

Zimbabwe Drums, Zimbabwe Drums, Fill the Night
Man give you life, then he just take away
Your soul and your pride, leaving despair
Blind rage consumes, there is no day
Only the darkness of night, drowning the dreams of a nation

Zimbabwe Drums, Zimbabwe Drums, Fill the Night
Children of doom, live and die in the still of time
Drumming the rage, with each beat of a decaying heart
Born of the drums of Zimbabwe

Indignities, possess the voice that long to be heard Need to be heard
One’s history, each one's account, of the world and oneself
Is the infinite thread we all weave
Zimbabwe Drums, Zimbabwe Drums, Fill the Night
Zimbabwe Drums, Zimbabwe Drums, Fill the Night
Zimbabwe Drums, Zimbabwe Drums, Fill the Night
